Commenting on the concerns of self-employed people in the Highlands and Islands, MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“There will be many people worried about what the future holds for them and their families during these unprecedented times.
“While the UK Government has moved quickly to give welcome reassurance to many businesses and to wage earners, Scotland’s self-employed sector are understandably concerned at the implications of loss of income for them and their families.
“That is why I back Scottish Conservative leader Jackson Carlaw’s call to the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, for urgent action to support Scotland’s 320,000 self-employed people. They need reassurance that government is working as hard as it can to come up with measure to support them too.
“Protecting our economy, jobs and businesses must be one of our priorities, and I am pleased that the UK and Scottish Governments are working together to tackle the enormous range of challenges presented by this emergency.
“Our communities are resilient and I am sure that we will come through this emergency by all working together.”
