Commenting on the Scottish Government’s latest policy positioning on fracking, Highlands and Islands MSP and Scottish Parliament Economy Committee member Jamie Halcro Johnston commented: “At a time when Scotland’s economy is faltering, and we are in desperate need of well-paid jobs, the SNP Government has thrown away the prospect of over 3,000 new jobs and £3.9 billion in tax receipts.
“This lost opportunity will be felt across Scotland. It fails to take advantage of a natural resource which we have the people and businesses with the skills, expertise and experience to utilise in a safe and responsible manner.
“As is too often the case, the SNP’s short-sighted and economically regressive political posturing has taken precedence over the potential of developing a new industry and the jobs it promises”.
