Concerns have been raised about rogue pavement parking on a narrow street in Elgin.
Residents have contacted local MP Douglas Ross after repeated instances of motorists flouting rules and parking on the pavements on Academy Street.
The partial blocking of the pavement is a particular problem for older people who use walking aids or wheelchair users.
Mr Ross has now written to Moray Council and to Police Scotland to ask what is being done to address the problem.
Scotland became the first part of the UK to ban pavement parking last year, with provisions contained in the Transport (Scotland) Bill 2019.
Scottish Conservative MP for Moray Douglas Ross said:
“I have been contacted by constituents who are struggling to get up and down the pavement on Academy Street.
“It is a narrow street, but drivers should not be parking on the pavement.
“Cars partially blocking the pavement are a particular problem for people who are less mobile.
“Anyone in a wheelchair or using a walking aid is forced onto the road to get past. It is dangerous and runs the risk of serious accidents.
“The Scottish Parliament introduced a ban on pavement parking as part of the Transport Bill last year. Those responsible should not be allowed to get away with breaking the law.
“I have now written to both Moray Council and Police Scotland to ask what is being done to address this."
