The Conservative Group on Moray council have been inundated with parental concerns over the now infamous SNP School Sex Survey in Moray, following discussion with senior officers it has now been announced that plans to move forward with the questionnaire have been shelved and a review has been called.
Commenting on this is Cllr Tim Eagle (Buckie Ward), Leader of the Conservative Group;
“The moment I heard about this questionnaire I raised my deep concerned with senior officers over its content. I have to wonder if it is ever appropriate to ask detailed sexual questions to young people. More worrying is that parents knew little of what was going on, how this survey would be undertaken, who was in the room at the time and if it was identifiable.
Many parents contacted me and members of my group to raise concerns and I am delighted that following discussion with senior officers they have now taken the position to ‘pause' the survey whilst working alongside other authorities reviewing the questions.”
Further commenting is Cllr Claire Feaver (Forres Ward)
“It is very surprising and disappointing, given this survey comes directly from the Scottish Government in Edinburgh, that ministers did not listen to the concerns of parents and take the decision to withdraw it themselves rather than leave it to councillors.”
“It’s quite obvious that it contained very inappropriate questions and there also remains a big question mark over privacy and confidentiality.
“Why can’t our children just be left alone by meddling politicians and allowed to get along with their childhoods?”
