At this morning’s meeting of the Police and Fire and Rescue Services Committee of Moray Council, Keith and Cullen Councillor, Cllr Donald Gatt (Conservative and Unionist) highlighted the reduction in Police numbers in the Northeast area, not only over the last five years but over 10 years since the days of Grampian Police in 2012.
According to Cllr Gatt, Police numbers in the Northeast area have fallen in established strength by 19 Police Officers or 1.7% since 2017. Comparing the current establishment to Grampian Police 10 years ago in 2012, establishment has fallen by 332 Police Officers or 23%. Other Police Officers operate in the Northeast area, but they are under national control and permission has to be obtained for their local use so is consequently restricted based on priorities.
Commenting, Keith and Cullen, Cllr Donald Gatt said: “I have received a number of complaints recently from constituents about intimidating anti-social behaviour and speeding in a number of areas.
Everyone has the right to be able to live in peace and quiet without mindless individuals making people’s lives a misery. To counter this anti-social behaviour, speeding and more serious crime the Police need to have the appropriate manpower and resources to protect our communities.””
