Following the publication of the papers which will be presented to the Economic Development and Infrastructure Services Committee on Tuesday 8th February, Councillor Marc Macrae commented –
“I am delighted that at long last a paper is in front of councillors for consideration.
“The matter of coastal erosion at Kingston has been one of great concern for more than a decade and many will remember my predecessor in this role Douglas Ross in 2014 bringing a paper to this very same committee with the assistance of local residents, seeking at that time support for a motion to bring a solution to the table.
“Just last night (Tuesday 1st) I attended a meeting of the Innes Community Council where it was noted that the hole, as it is known locally, had shrunk by at least 100 yards with infill of sand and shingle, almost levelling the shingle and bringing high tides perilously close to the landward bank.
“I welcome the words from officers in their conclusion that after many years of a watching brief, they now admit a significant change has occurred at the tidal lagoon in front of Kingston and that we can no longer continue a policy of just wait and see.
“I very much look forward to debating this issue next week and hope that with government funding available to develop a plan, that alongside my councillor colleagues we can finally bring some reassurance to residents that both short- and long-term actions will be identified to better manage this coastal area.”
