Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed the news that an NHS incident management team brought in to deal with the surge in cases in Moray has been stood down.
He was commenting after reports that the area has gone from being the region in Scotland with the highest number of Covid cases (more than 100 per 1000) to being back to their lowest ever level (17 per 1000).
Douglas said: “I very much welcome the news that the NHS incident team brought in to target this increase in cases and combat the spike in the virus are now being stood down due to the fall in cases.
“This is due in no small part to the hard work of the NHS teams who continue to test and vaccinate, but also the response from the public who have lined up to get their jabs to bring this spike in cases down and stop it from spreading further.
“It is clear that the increase in the vaccination rollout and increased testing boosted efforts to stop the spread of the virus and that efforts by the public here in Moray has had remarkable results.
“It was due to this combined effort that saw us able to move down to Level 2 and hopefully we will be able to move to Level 1 in the near future.
“Local people and businesses, small and large, have all gone to great lengths and made significant sacrifices for us to be at this stage, but it isn’t over yet, the virus is still with us and we must remain vigilant, and also get our vaccines when they are offered and take advantage of testing facilities in our communities.
“But this move by NHS Grampian is the clearest signal yet that we have turned this situation around and I know how welcome this news is to everyone here in Moray.”
