Cllr Tim Eagle, Leader of the Conservative group on Moray Council has welcomed new that Moray Councils leisure centres will re-open from 14th September.
Commenting Tim Eagle said; “I continue to believe that leisure is a vital front line service which offers huge benefits to our communities not least enabling us all to live fit and healthy lives. I had been concerned our leisure centres were not open following the restrictions lifting on the 31st August and have asked many questions on this over the last few weeks. I was however always conscious that a huge amount of work was being done in the background to make this happen and I thank staff who have been involved for that.
As everyone will appreciate the rules and advice from the Scottish Government in order to keep us safe from COVID-19 remain in force and this means that we cannot return to what was before, the public will therefore see a phased approach to re-opening.
Whilst I welcome the re-opening of facilities I will continue to engage with senior officers to ensure we are working as quickly and safely as possible to get swimming lessons, sports development and games halls open and accessible to all.
I want to stress the importance of supporting your local leisure centre. Just last year 2 of our swimming pools were under threat and it was only because so many local people took out our fit-life scheme that we were able to save them. I urge people to remember the importance of Fit-Life to the council and hope that together we will use and protect our local leisure facilities.”
