In the meeting of full council today members agreed unanimously to proceed with a motion proposed by Cllr David Bremner and seconded by Cllr Marc Macrae
It was recommended that the Council:
Consider the history of the investigations since 2007 and Moray Council Policy on Flood Risk Management….
If minded, to instruct works to progress options 2 and 6 in the papers in principle for further investigation as to methods and costs.
2 – Low Level Bunds at Railway Embankment
6 – Natural Flood Management
(Potential costs of both £275,000)
Following the unanimous decision of the council Cllr Macrae said –
“I am delighted that at long last there is light at the end of the tunnel or perhaps gold at the end of the rainbow for Garmouth.
“Pressures from the local community have been ongoing for many years now and it was vital that the meeting today saw an action plan to move forwards.
“Whilst not an overnight solution and Garmouth may yet need to have their wellies on standby, this should provide an assurance that officers have now been tasked to move two options forwards, and with support from all members in the chamber I would hope that we will see reports back in due course to progress to the design and implementation stages.
“Grateful to landowners, residents, golfers and the Innes Community Council for continuing to champion these issues for several decades and demonstrates the importance of community engagement.”
