Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston is backing farming sector calls for visitors to the countryside to act responsibly.
With Covid19 restrictions likely to be eased over the next few days, the Conservative MSP has given his support to NFU Scotland pleas for those travelling into the countryside to do so with consideration for local farmers.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: “For many people across the Highlands and Islands, the countryside is a working environment.
“Our farmers and crofters have worked throughout the coronavirus pandemic to ensure the nation is supplied with food, and they should be able to expect that, when people visit the countryside, they act responsibly.
“That means things like observing social distancing, not disturbing animals, and avoiding farm buildings and farmyards.
“Farmers must be allowed to get on with their vital work without distraction or risk.
“As the lockdown is relaxed, and more people seek exercise in the great outdoors, it’s more important than ever that we are aware of what is going on around us and don’t disturb the essential work of our farming sector”.
