Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has hailed the latest figures for the UK Government’s Job Retention Scheme which show over 14,000 jobs in Moray have been protected.
The new figures also reveal that £8.5m has been claimed by people in Moray who are self-employed under that scheme.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: “These latest figures confirm yet again the unprecedented measures that the Chancellor has undertaken to protects jobs and businesses here in Moray.
“And it has been extremely welcome to see Rishi Sunak underline his commitment to delivering for the whole country by coming to the Highlands and Islands to see for himself how the schemes are working in practice.
“These are extremely challenging times and it is right that the full resources of the United Kingdom are deployed to get us through the worst.
“At times like these, people need help to support themselves and their families, and they want to see their governments working together to a common end.
“It’s vital that continues and, as the focus of the response to Coronavirus moves from the health to the economic impact, that people and businesses in Moray can be confident that the UK and devolved governments are working hard to protect jobs and opportunities”.
