Halcro Johnston visit to Morayvia
Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston visited local visitor attraction Morayvia at the weekend.
The Kinloss-based aviation centre has expanded its collection of heritage aircraft, following its creation eight years ago with the intention of saving a Nimrod maritime control aircraft that previously operated out of RAF Lossiemouth.
The Conservative MSP met with chairman Mark Mair, as well as directors Marc Macrae and Bob Pountney, noting the commitment of volunteers involved with the charity to preserving a slice of the region’s heritage. Morayvia was recognised last year with a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The organisation are preparing to add cockpit sections from a Meteor jet fighter and Buccaneer attack aircraft to their displays, as well as sections from a Lightning and Jet Provost training plane.
Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“It was fantastic to visit Morayvia as the charity continues to expand and grow.
“Through the dedication of volunteers, they have created a fantastic visitors’ attraction here in the heart of Moray. This is a county with a long history of aviation and it is the time and effort of so many people that make Moray a great place to live and visit.
“I know when Morayvia reopens to the public in the spring it will be bigger and better than ever.”
