Confirmation that a General Election will now take place on 12th December has been welcomed by Highlands and Islands Conservative MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: "Again and again, Parliament has been hamstrung by Labour, SNP and Liberal Democrat MPs working hand in hand to block any and every attempt to get a deal to deliver Brexit.
“We need to break the logjam. And the best way of achieving that is to have a Parliament with a clear idea of what it wants, and a real plan on how to deliver that.
“The only party with that plan - one which respects the result of the EU referendum and which has a deal on the table which offers an orderly exit from the EU - is the Conservatives.
“That’s why it’s so important that we elect a majority Conservative government which will deliver Brexit, negotiate a new and positive relationship with the EU, and allow us all to be able to focus on the day to day issues which are so important to most people.
"Any other outcome would mean more delay, more uncertainty and the threat of yet more referendums. The LibDems want another EU referendum. The SNP want another EU referendum and another divisive independence referendum. And no one really knows what Labour want.
“Only the Conservatives promise our country a clear way forward, one where we get Brexit sorted, reclaim control over our fishing grounds and are able to look to the future”.
