At an Extraordinary General Meeting of the local association held on Sunday 21st July 2019 local members selected Tim Eagle to be the Scottish Conservative candidate for the Moray constituency for the Scottish Parliament elections in 2021.
Following the meeting, local association Chairman Neil McLeod said -
"I am delighted to announce that following today's EGM which was convened to select and adopt a candidate for the Holyrood 2021 elections that Tim Eagle has been selected to contest the Moray seat.
"Tim is well known across Moray for the hard work he does as a councillor and as leader of the Conservative group of councillors and we know that his hard work and dedication make him the perfect candidate to represent us all in Moray at the Scottish Parliament."
Following selection Tim Eagle commented -
"I was truly honoured and humbled to be selected by the local association members as their candidate for the 2021 Holyrood election. Even until recently I never imagined myself being in this position but having spoken to many Conservative supporters, I was persuaded to fight this election and, if elected, work hard to represent everyone in Moray.”
"There will be many days and hours of hard work ahead, building on the momentum and the work done by elected colleagues, in the council, in Holyrood and at Westminster, and I very much look forward to the challenges which are ahead of me. I know this will not be easy but I want to show that the Scottish Conservatives have some really good ideas and policies and the benefits these can bring.”
"I know some won’t believe me, but this is not about myself standing for election, it is about working together across Moray, reuniting divided opinions and providing a strong voice for the area.”
Following the meeting Douglas Ross, MP for Moray said –
“Tim has shown as a local councillor and as leader of the Scottish Conservatives on Moray Council that he is a strong campaigner for his area and gets things done.
“It was good to see a number of excellent candidates put themselves forward for the nomination as our candidate in Moray at the next election for the Scottish Parliament and Tim’s success shows how popular he was amongst our members to take the fight to the SNP.
“At the next election here in Moray and across Scotland people will have the choice of more of the same with the SNP or a positive change with Tim Eagle and the Scottish Conservatives.”
Commenting Jamie Halcro Johnston, MSP for the Highlands and Islands Region, said:
“We now have an even stronger Conservative team in Moray to take the fight to the SNP Scottish Government which has repeatedly failed to deliver for our communities.
“I’m looking forward to campaigning with Tim in communities across Moray over the next couple of years”.
