Moray MP Douglas Ross has commented after the announcement that Beaver Travel which operates High Street branches in Elgin and Forres will be closing their offices, switching to a reduced operational service in the meantime.
Douglas said: “It’s very sad to hear that this well-established business has made the decision to close its operation in Moray following a month long consultation process.
“I’ve been contacted this morning by constituents who have booked holidays with the company and have received an email informing them that their holidays are protected and will go ahead as planned but that the offices in Forres and Elgin which employs 19 staff between them will not be reopening. Our thoughts are clearly with those who have lost their jobs as I know from personal experience how great the staff were at both branches.
“The Coronavirus Lockdown period has been very challenging for a lot of businesses across Moray and the UK and although the Government has done its best to support as many businesses throughout this period, it is extremely sad to hear that a long-standing company such as Beaver Travel will not be opening its doors again.
“I’m very concerned about the 19 staff who will be affected by this decision and as the area’s MP, myself and my team are available to assist them along with the excellent local job centres to ensure that they are supported at this difficult time.”
