MP tells Moray Council that it Must Do Better on Bin Collections
Moray MP Douglas Ross has expressed his disappointment at continuing problems with Moray Council’s bin collection online calendar which constituents are expected to follow after the council decided not to send out printed schedules. After raising the issue at the start of the year, Moray Council took almost six weeks to reply to the concerns the MP raised with them and say they are still looking to make corrections to their service as more mistakes are identified.
Douglas said: “I received a lot of complaints from local people about chaos in the bin collection service and the system the council introduced to replace the printed calendars they previously issued. The calendars are vital so people know what bins are due to be collected when, and while I had concerns about the decision not to print these in the future I was encouraged that the council had a system where people could go online, enter their address and print off their own schedule.
“Sadly this system has been an complete mess with many addresses generating the wrong schedule and people missing their collections, one street in Elgin had four different schedules for the same area and people were understandably confused and annoyed by this. I raised it as a matter of urgency the first day the council reopened after the festive holidays and I’m disappointed it took them six weeks to reply and admit they have had problems with the coding in their system and they are still working to resolve all of these.
“I’m afraid this reflects badly on the Council. The bin collection service is a Council service that everyone relies on and a smooth introduction of the new rota is something that we should be able to take for granted. The fact that the Council is having to continue to review the system, and that problems continue to arise, indicates that the project has been poorly managed. I hope and expect that any remaining problems are ironed out very quickly indeed. The Council must do better.”
