Kinloss Abbey is the subject of a Holyrood motion praising local efforts to restore the former Abbot’s House at the historic site.
Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has submitted the motion to the Scottish Parliament in which he highlights the significance of the Abbey, which was visited by Mary, Queen of Scots, and the range of grants that have made the work possible. Those contributing include EB Scotland, with smaller awards from the Architectural Heritage Fund and the late Moray businessman, David Urquhart.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: “Moray is blessed with a number of fascinating historic buildings, which add greatly to the appeal of the county to visitors and local people alike.
“But they all need care and maintenance, and I was therefore delighted to have the opportunity to highlight to colleagues in the Scottish Parliament the work going on at Kinloss Abbey, as well as the efforts of all those making this work possible.
“We should also remember that the abbey grounds are the final resting place of a number of service personnel who lost their lives serving their country. This makes it all the more fitting that the local community is working together to look after it, and their efforts will be greatly appreciated by everyone who visits the abbey to pay their respects.”
