Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has welcomed news that Scottish farmers are to receive an extra £160m of convergence funding from the UK Government.
The award, which was announced in the UK Spending Review today follows a lengthy and concerted campaign from the Scottish Conservatives at Westminster to ensure that Scottish farmers received the money they were due.
The Scottish Conservative MSP said: “This is fantastic news for farmers across the Highlands and Islands.
“Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy and I am delighted that my Scottish Conservative colleagues at Westminster, working with the Conservative team at Holyrood, have been able to make such a positive difference by lobbying at the highest levels of Government.
“£160m will make a big difference to a lot of farming businesses and will make a significant contribution to their sustainability in the future.”
