MORAY MP Douglas Ross has received a response from Police Scotland acknowledging his concerns that drivers are regularly exceeding the speed limit on a stretch of Grantown Road leaving Forres and giving reassurances that they will increase their patrols in this area.
Douglas said: “I wrote to Police Scotland recently after being contacted by a constituent who flagged-up concerns about drivers speeding when they are leaving Forres from the last roundabout on Grantown Road and how they have witnessed near misses with drivers using the turnoff at the Knockomie Hotel which is not very well signposted.
“However, more worrying was information received that some of these young drivers may be using social media to post their antics trying to beat each other getting from the roundabout to the top of the hill, past the turning.
“Police have no evidence of this particular worrying development but have said that local officers and specialist roads policing resources have been made aware of these concerns and will further assess the situation.
“I’m glad these concerns have been taken seriously by police and hopefully, anyone who is caught behaving in such a reckless manner will be stopped and dealt with accordingly.
“I’ve also written to Moray Council to ask for improved signage to put in place at this turnoff warning motorists that there is a hidden turning to hopefully prevent any accidents.”
