Moray MP Douglas Ross has promised to keep concerned constituents fully updated in relation to SSEN’s plans for Blackhillock 2.
His remarks come after the extended consultation period – which was agreed by the company after requests from Douglas as the local MP – closed on Friday May 5th.
After this Douglas once again contacted SSEN so he could relay a further update on the next steps to his constituents.
SSEN have informed Douglas that their project team will be reviewing and analysing more than 100 feedback forms and large quantity of emails that they have received in relation to the substation.
They say that will help to inform which of their potential substation sites that they will be taking forward. Once they have chosen their preferred sites, they will refine options in relation to potential mitigation for local communities.
SSEN added that they recognise the strength of feeling shared in relation to Blackhillock 2 and they will be carefully considering the feedback shared by local residents.
Douglas says it was “vitally important” that the consultation period was extended and more residents were also able to have their say at an event in Keith last month.
The Moray MP added that he will continue to relay the concerns of his constituents and keep them updated on what SSEN are planning.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “SSEN’s plans for Blackhillock 2 have understandably provoked strong feelings among the communities that would be the most affected.
“That is why it was vitally important that the consultation period was extended and I was pleased SSEN listened to the calls from myself and the community to do so.
“These plans cannot progress unless they have the support of local people and take their concerns fully into account.
“This post-consultation update from the company was helpful in order for me to update my constituents about the next steps.
“I am pleased that so many local people took the time to make their views known to SSEN and ensure that they will have a lot to review in the coming weeks before announcing the next steps with respect of Blackhillock 2.
“I will continue to relay the concerns of local people to SSEN as well as simultaneously keeping local people updated on any updates SSEN provide to me, to ensure the local community are at the heart of this project, whatever the ultimate outcome.”
