Moray MP Douglas Ross has contacted SGN on behalf of constituents in Keith that have been left without a gas supply due to an outage today (Tuesday).
Residents in and around Keith and in the Huntly area have reported a loss of supply for heating and cooking this morning, with outdoor temperatures at just above freezing.
Mr Ross contacted the operators this morning to try and ascertain what the problem was and what was being done to rectify it.
SGN has said that supply is likely to be out overnight.
Scottish Conservative MP for Moray Douglas Ross said:
“I contacted SGN as soon as these concerns were raised with me by local residents in Keith who have been left without gas.
“Given the near-freezing temperatures outside just now, this is a matter that must be addressed urgently.
“I am working with SGN and Moray Council to see what support can be offered to those affected.
“SGN has said it is contacting those on its priority list, which is a welcome step. There will undoubtedly be vulnerable people for whom the loss of heating will be more challenging.
“I have asked for updates throughout the day and will pass on any more information as and when I receive it.”
Scottish Conservative councillor for Keith and Cullen Donald Gatt said:
“The loss of gas supply would be disruptive at any time but given the temperatures we have seen in the last few days this is particularly worrying.
“I hope that the supply can be restored as quickly as possible.
“In the meantime, additional support must be offered to those that need it.”
Scottish Conservative councillor for Keith and Cullen Laura Powell said:
“This incident will be affecting thousands of people today.
“With everyone being told to stay at home due to the Coronavirus restrictions, there is nowhere else for people to go.
“That is why it is all the more urgent for SGN to identify the problem and take action to fix it so that heating can be restored to homes here in Keith and in Huntly.”
