Moray MP Douglas Ross has expressed his disappointment after Elgin failed to secure City status as part of a competition for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Commenting Douglas said: “This is very disappointing news after so many people put in so much hard work towards the bid to try and secure City status, which would have given Elgin and Moray a considerable boost.
“However, with 40 towns across the UK competing for the same accolade, it was never going to be easy, and the team responsible for the bid did extremely well to submit such a positive case, and I hope they won’t be discouraged from trying again in the future if the opportunity arises.
“Elgin has a lot to offer and putting a bid together outlines all its positive attributes, and hopefully this is something we can build on going forward. The cross-party support showed we were all pulling in the same direction, but on this occasion it wasn’t to be. Congratulations to Dunfermline and across Moray we will still be able to enjoy the many Jubilee celebrations that are planned.”
