Ross highlights rise in anti-social behaviour in Moray
MORAY MP Douglas Ross has expressed his concerns after figures released showed that anti-social behaviour in Moray is on the rise.
Douglas said: “Latest figures from Police Scotland show a 25% increase in reported cases of anti-social behaviour in Moray compared to last year and there are now almost 11 incidents every day.
“Anti-social behaviour such as noise, graffiti and vandalism have a negative impact on communities here in Moray and can severely affect people’s quality of life.
“I’m appalled that there has been such a sharp rise in Moray, with 3900 cases in the past year. It is no coincidence that, under the SNP, police numbers are falling, officers are increasingly stretched and have less time to patrol our streets and communities.
“Anti-social behaviour is one of the most common complaints people raise with me and every one of these crimes has a victim so we need to ensure this trend is reversed. The SNP must ensure we have enough police officers in Moray to detect and deter anyone involved in anti-social behaviour, and reassure the public that they will be protected.
“Our local officers do a fantastic job, but there is no doubt that since the SNP centralised policing into one force for the whole of Scotland, local policing has been hit and we are now seeing the impact of this with increasing amounts of anti-social behaviour being reported in Moray.”
Across Scotland anti-social behaviour rose by five per cent over the past year.
