Ross slams proposals for a Tourist Tax in Moray
Moray MP Douglas Ross has slammed an SNP proposal to charge businesses in Moray a tourist tax.
Douglas said: “The last thing the tourism industry in Moray needs is the imposition of extra taxation. While I understand that Moray Council is in desperate financial straits due to a very unfair financial settlement from the SNP Scottish Government, targeting our tourism businesses with a new tax to make up the shortfall is simply wrong. Even the SNP tourism Secretary recently attacked SNP-run Edinburgh City Council when they proposed something similar.”
Douglas added: “I would suggest that the local SNP councillors lobby Nicola Sturgeon and other SNP ministers for a fair deal for Moray rather than asking our local businesses for even more tax. After all, many of these businesses are still reeling from the huge increases in business rates overseen by the Scottish Government.”
