Ross voices concern as Moray mum ‘in labour’ has to take taxi to Aberdeen hospital
Moray MP Douglas Ross has written to the Scottish Government and NHS Grampian to express his concern after a woman had to take a taxi to get her to hospital in Aberdeen when she went into labour.
Douglas said: “Garey Stewart of Guvnors Taxis clearly did a great job of getting this woman safely to hospital, but it should never have happened.
“It is simply unacceptable that an expectant mum in labour should be forced to travel such a distance to give birth in Aberdeen. Anything could have happened, especially as we are now heading quickly into winter and the roads are unpredictable. The stress alone on both the expectant mum and the driver must have been unbearable.
“Local campaigners predicted that this is what would happen following the downgrading of services in Elgin and they will take no pleasure in being proved right.
“I have already contacted NHS Grampian and the Health Secretary Jeane Freeman about this. The situation must be addressed urgently to avoid other mums-to-be having to endure similar journeys.”
