Ross welcomes freeze on fuel duty
Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed news that the UK Government will continue to freeze tax rises on fuel duty in the upcoming Budget which he says will give the Moray economy a boost.
Douglas said: “I very much welcome the announcement by the Prime Minister during her conference speech that there will be no tax rises on petrol and diesel for the ninth year running.
“The cost of fuel is a real concern in Moray and across the country, where prices are already high and this naturally has an impact on the household income.
“Not only that, but the cost of fuel can have a negative effect on a rural economy such as Moray, not just for motorists but for businesses who rely on vans or haulage companies. This will also be welcomed by the many local industries who rely on heavy goods vehicles as an everyday part of their business.
“With the Conservative Government freezing fuel duty for the ninth year running, it means that since 2010 we have saved the average motorist £850 and £2100 for van drivers.
“I know this news will be welcomed by people in Moray because by continuing with this freeze the Conservative Government is helping local people who rely on their vehicles.”
