Ross welcomes introduction of low access buses in Moray
Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed the introduction of new low access buses back to Moray by Stagecoach, following his lobbying over the issue. Stagecoach confirmed the news in a response to the Moray MP who has repeatedly raised the issue on behalf of constituents.
Douglas said: “I have been approached in recent months by a number of constituents who had told me they were struggling to get onto the buses due to many of them having steep steps and no mechanism to tilt down to the pavement. In some cases, people were simply unable to use the bus at all because they found it so difficult to board.
“I am very pleased after raising this this issue with Stagecoach many times, that they have listened to constituent’s concerns and outlined investment of £1.1 million to introduce a fleet of eight brand new low floor buses which will run between Inverness and Elgin.
“Low floor mini buses have also been re-launched in Forres and these buses will allow passengers with mobility problems or requiring wheelchair access, the ability to board more easily.
“Although this is good news for Forres, a better service is still needed in other parts of the town such as Forbeshill and across Moray where services have been lost. This is something that I will continue to raise with Stagecoach.
“The introduction of these easy access buses is however very welcome news.”
