Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed the opening to the public today (Monday) of the new Moray Sports Centre at Linkwood in Elgin.
Douglas said: “I enjoyed my visit last year to the centre during its construction phase and everyone involved in the project should be congratulated for bringing state of the art sports and fitness facilities to Moray on budget and on schedule.
“The centre cost more than £8 million and the facilities open today include Moray’s largest sports hall and gym facilities that can cater for people of all abilities along with air-conditioned studios offering a range of classes. I also understand that within the next six months there are plans to build four indoor tennis courts, with a 3G pitch to follow, which is excellent news and I look forward to the centre expanding even further.
“This is a great day for the centre and I know these new facilities will be welcomed by people across Moray.”
The new facility took only 12 months to build and was delivered on time and budget by Morrison Construction. It was funded entirely by the Moray Sports Trust.
A trustee of the new sports centre said: “We are delighted with our new building because we know how much it is needed by the people of Moray. Interest and membership are both well ahead of expectation and we are very proud of the positive response. We have ambitious plans for the centre and look forward to delivering for our existing customers and expanding to welcome even more people in the future.”
