Highlands and Islands MSPs welcome North East 250
Highlands and Islands Conservative MSPs Jamie Halcro Johnston and Edward Mountain have welcomed the formation of the North East 250, a 250-mile circular road-travel tourist route with a motion in the Scottish Parliament.
Similar to the North Coast 500, the North East 250 route will travel through Speyside, the Cairngorms National Park, Royal Deeside, Aberdeen, the east coast and the Moray coast. It was launched today at the Moray Speyside Tourism Conference in Elgin.
The three main entry points for the route will be a Ballindalloch, Aberdeen Airport and Glenshee. Existing partners include Chivas Brothers, Ballindalloch Castle and Gardens, Ballindalloch Distillery, Turcan Connell, Walkers and Aberdeen International Airport.
Jamie Halcro Johnston MSP said:
“The North East 250 is a welcome addition to our local tourist offering in Moray, the west Highlands and the north-east. It will give visitors the opportunity to visit some of our finest scenery and attractions from the coast to the mountains.
“These types of initiatives have a real potential to improve the interconnectivity of the region’s tourist attractions. I hope that businesses around the route will get involved.”
Fellow Scottish Conservative MSP for the Highlands and Islands region Edward Mountain MSP said:
“I give my support to the North East 250, which builds upon the success of the North Coast 500 in promoting tourism to our region. I wish it every success in the future.”
