Over 22,000 in Moray face higher taxes from the SNP
Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has condemned the SNP’s proposed tax increase after new figures show an estimated 22,528 people in Moray will see taxes rise under the Scottish Government’s plans.
Ahead of the Scottish Government’s budget on 14 December, the Conservative MSP has pointed to thousands of people across the county who will pay more under the SNP’s tax proposals set out at the start of November. The SNP plan, based on five income tax bands, would hit anyone earning more than £24,000.
Jamie Halcro Johnston MSP said:
“It is worrying that more than 22,000 people in Moray face higher taxes in this Scottish Government budget. This won’t just affect the well-off, but teachers, nurses and police officers across the length and breadth of Scotland.
“The SNP failed to be honest with the Scottish people about their tax plans ahead of last year’s Scottish Parliament elections. The Scottish Conservatives made a clear pledge that we would not support any increase in tax higher than the levels in the rest of the UK.
“In December’s budget, we will be sending a clear message to the SNP government in Edinburgh: now is not the time for Nicola Sturgeon to be raiding the pockets of hard-working people in Moray.”
