COMMENT: ABERDEEN TO KIRKWALL FLIGHTS
Commenting on news that Flybe – with its partner Eastern Airways – will end their Aberdeen-Kirkwall service on 4 March, Highlands and Islands Conservative MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“Today’s announcement is disappointing news, particularly following assurances from Flybe in December when it announced that its flights to Shetland would come to an end.
“We have seen a period of change in Orkney’s air services recently, with new routes and new operators involved. However this is also an uncertain period for travellers, who are seeing flight times changed and now services being withdrawn.
“These connections are important for local people as well as the wider economy of the islands. Going forward, Orkney will need reassurance that its continuing air routes are going to be both reliable and sustainable.”
