MP secures postal deliveries for new properties at Linkwood Steadings in Elgin
Moray MP Douglas Ross has prompted Royal Mail to begin delivering post to a new housing development in Elgin after residents asked him to intervene on their behalf.
Douglas said: “When I was told that people living in the Linkwood Steadings development were not receiving post at their address I contacted Royal Mail for an explanation. I understand there were safety issues as part of the development is still being constructed but I was pleased to learn that the Elgin Delivery Office Manager along with the local Health & Safety representative have since visited the development and deliveries have now commenced to many of the addresses.
“Of course, health and safety must come first, but if residents are safely in their homes it seems strange that there should be a question mark over whether postal workers can deliver the mail to them. At any rate, I’m pleased that Royal Mail has responded positively following my contact with them and replied with a detailed account of what they are doing.
“With regard to some addresses that they feel unable to deliver to, Royal Mail are holding items of mail at the Elgin Delivery Office for collection. This is obviously far from ideal but hopefully normal service will start for the remaining houses as I have been assured the local office will be continually reviewing the situation.”
