MSP praises local volunteering in Moray
Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston used a speech in the Scottish Parliament marking Volunteering Week to highlight some of the examples of the work of organisations in Moray as well as national organisations like the Royal Voluntary Service and Voluntary Service Overseas.
The Conservative MSP spoke about the recent Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service received by local sci-tech visitors centre charity Morayvia, as well as organisations like Fochabers Heritage and the Step by Step in Moray groups for children and parents.
He also pointed to the Moray HandyPerson Services, which provide voluntary support for people to help them to live independently and stay in their own homes.
Speaking later, Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“These organisations do vital work in our community, day in and day out – and are only a small number of the groups working across Moray.
“This Volunteer’s Week, I would encourage everyone to get involved in their local community, whether through voluntary organisations, community groups or even just by their own efforts – to build on the efforts of existing volunteers.
“It is great to be have the opportunity to recognise some of the organisations that do such fantastic work across the county, and to offer my thanks for what they do to make Moray an even better place to live.”
