Ross welcomes moves to re-open coastal footpath
Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed news that the damaged footpath between Portknockie and Cullen could be re-opened by late August.
Douglas said: “Moray Council and Sustrans met recently to work out how to repair or re-route a section of the footpath between Portknockie and Cullen which was damaged by a landslip caused by the heavy rain in September last year and which has been closed ever since.
“Having written to both the council and Sustrans urging them to re-instate the popular coastal path, which is used by many local people and tourists, I am pleased that Sustrans have arranged a survey to assess what remedial works will be needed to re-open the route.
“The survey is scheduled to begin in July and the results will be available later in the summer. It is expected that a temporary repair could be in place by late August, which is great news for walkers, cyclists and older people who can use mobility scooters along the relatively flat and safe path.
“I understand that, depending on the results of the survey, full repairs to the path will be completed by April 2019. While Moray Council briefed me on this update earlier today, I am keen to keep pressure on both the council and Sustrans to ensure this work can take place as quickly as possible.”
