Ross meets Minister as campaign against rip-off delivery charges gathers momentum
Moray MP Douglas Ross met with Small Business and Consumer Protection Minister Kelly Tolhurst MP at Westminster to progress the campaign against rip-off delivery charges imposed on customers in Moray and the north of Scotland.
Douglas said: “It was a very positive meeting and I was able to further highlight with the Minister the number of cases that have been brought to me about unfair charges being added to orders coming to Moray because of their postcode.
“This is just the next step in the campaign to try and end this unfair practice and I’m hopeful that by working with the Minister we will be able to right this wrong. We have already seen some action from certain companies but more still needs to be done across the board.
“The Minister was very positive in her response and it is clear this issue is getting the attention within Government. I look forward to working with Kelly on this important matter and seeking a solution for people in Moray who been affected by these rip-off charges for far too long.
“I have raised this issue time and time again in Parliament and people are becoming much more aware of the problem and are no longer willing to accept these scandalous delivery charges.”
Commenting after the meeting Minister Kelly Tolhurst said:
“Douglas has been a strong champion for the campaign against excessive delivery charges applied to addresses in his Moray constituency. I have received more representations from Douglas on this issue than any other politician from any Parliament in the UK. He has been assiduous in raising the issue and has already had some success with companies changing their policies.
“I look forward to working with Douglas on this matter. This meeting was a positive start and ensures the issue remains very much on my radar and that of the department.”
