Moray MP Douglas Ross has commented after NHS Grampian confirmed that staffing changes have allowed them to reintroduce elective caesareans earlier than expected. Douglas said:
“This is welcome news as any service coming back to Moray will help some expectant mums, but we still face major issues before the full range of maternity services are available locally again.
“NHS Grampian have clearly worked hard to get a suitable staffing arrangement in place but they do highlight that this work could be undone when the next round of junior doctor placements are made in February. We all hope that sufficient people are placed in Moray at that time.
“While there is progress in this area, I still have grave concerns over the lack of maternity services in Moray. As the weather has started to deteriorate, the number of women in labour and their families who will have to travel to Aberdeen to give birth is worrying. We were promised this issue would be prioritised by the Scottish Government months ago, but in fact very little seems to have been done.
“Pregnant women in Moray continue to be kept in the dark over a number of issues surrounding maternity services and we still do not have the paediatric care available locally that we should have. I will continue to press the Scottish Government to provide the solutions we need to reinstate the health services Moray expects.”
