Moray MP calls bin collection system chaotic
Following complaints from local constituents, Moray MP Douglas Ross, has contacted Moray Council regarding their refuse and recycling bin collections. Complaints have increased since the council refused to issue calendars highlighting the dates various bins would be collected and instead directed people to view their website to get the details, however it now seems that information on the council’s website is inaccurate or unavailable.
Douglas said: “There have been a number of concerns raised since the council announced they would not be issuing calendars for people to keep track of which bins would be collected on which days.”
“I was in contact with the council about this last year as elderly residents in particular with limited or no access to the internet couldn’t simply go online to download a copy. I have been trying to help out as much as possible with any constituent who got in touch with my constituency office about this, but the problem seems far bigger now.
“Today I have heard from next door neighbours who have previously had the same collection check online only to be told they now have completely different schedules, postcodes not being recognised at all and I’ve heard one road in Elgin has four separate collection rotas.
“The council told me that the cost of the calendars issued last year was approximately £20,000 and they were urging people to go onto their website to get this information for themselves, but it seems the system is not working and is chaotic to say the least.
“I’ve asked Moray Council to look into this as a matter of urgency and hope they will address this as quickly as possible, especially given the time of year, immediately after the Christmas break when bins are likely to be full to capacity.”
