Ross welcomes Link ATM network move to encourage more ATMs in rural areas
Commenting after the LINK ATM network launched an initiative to safeguard free-to-use ATMs in remote and deprived areas across the UK, Scottish Conservative MP for Moray, Douglas Ross, said:
“Moray has suffered from a number of bank branches closing and in the two most recent announcements it has not just been the actual branch that is due to shut, but the ATM will also be removed as well. This has a huge impact on rural areas and is a concern for both local residents and businesses.
“I will continue to press the Bank of Scotland to reconsider their plans to close their branches in Lossiemouth and Keith, but if they ultimately go ahead we have to look at what provision remains in the towns and ATMs are a vital part of this.
“That’s why I’m encouraged by the news that, from April, Link ATM will significantly increase the payments to ATM operators making the installation of a cash machine in more rural locations more attractive.
“We have to do everything possible to keep our Moray communities vibrant for both residents and businesses and the many visitors we welcome here each year. A decent network of ATMs is important if we are to achieve this aim and this move by Link ATM could play a significant role in encouraging the installation of more ATMs across Moray.”
