The Leader of Moray Council’s Conservative Group, Cllr Tim Eagle (Buckie Ward), has appealed to Moray residents for feedback in the wake of cuts made to council services by the SNP administration.
He said: "This picture of a young child in Moray picking flowers for his mum, his legs covered by long grass on a sunny day, might seem lovely but it hides a much darker fact. That fact is that among the cuts being introduced is the withdrawal of much of the Council’s grass-cutting activity. And that long grass could be hiding all manner of litter and dog mess, not to mention ticks. As a result of cuts like these I am daily receiving e-mails regarding budget lines – especially about the limitations that are being put on young families as they struggle to access play parks.
“What is most galling is that the very same SNP councillors who claimed last year, when they were in opposition, that Moray council had an extra £4million (which it never actually had), are the very same ones who have implemented these cuts. These are the same people who campaigned to protect our school crossing patrollers and have since scrapped the entire service.
“It is clear to me that the failing policies of the SNP government, and a local SNP administration who are not willing to challenge their masters in Edinburgh, are wreaking devastating consequences on the communities of Moray.
“We need to do better than this, and that is why I am asking concerned local people to get in touch. Many of the best ideas come from those people who use the services concerned. So my message to Moray residents is please let me have your ideas for how we can address these huge challenges.
“My group and I will be speaking in depth at our meeting next week to decide what can be done, for instance, to mitigate the lack of grass cutting and we welcome continued conversations with concerned residents.
“I can be contacted at [email protected] or via the Moray Council.”
