Halcro Johnston calls for more support for women wishing to start businesses
Highlighting the missed opportunities for women in business during and after today’s Scottish Parliament debate on the Economy Committee’s Business Support Report, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“Our economy will not reach its maximum potential until more women are supported to start businesses.
“Women’s Enterprise Scotland recently published research which showed that the economy would add an extra £13 billion if the number of female-led businesses matched those of men. This is a huge opportunity and I am urging the Government to do more to support female entrepreneurs.
“There are some great examples of businesses led by women across the Highlands and Islands but we would all greatly benefit if there were more of them, and our business support network should be there to help.
“That is a challenge to the Scottish Government, and to all the agencies involved in supporting businesses, to step up to the mark”.
