Douglas Ross MP and Cllr Tim Eagle have both today welcomed the new autumn/winter 2019 sports programme at Moray Council. The new programme has a vast array of activities on offer for school pupils from P1 to S6 including Trampolining, Badminton, Tennis and Football.
Welcoming the new programme was Cllr Tim Eagle (Buckie ward) who commented, “I am extremely proud of the hard work that goes into the councils active schools and sports development programme. We have some amazing staff working on minimal budgets to deliver a wide range of activities across Moray. This term will see everything from Football and Tennis to Mixed Sports, Gymnastics and Trampolining. There really is something for everyone and activities are broken down into age groups which cover everyone from P1 to S6. Classes are available throughout Moray. With the new system it is really easy to book online and remember these classes are free with your Fit Life card.
The summer term programme reached out to over 600 pupils from across Moray who keenly took part in a wide range of activities and this was exceeded during the summer holiday programme where currently over 730 young people have taken part in sports activities during the summer holiday. I want to see this go even higher. We already see many courses being booked to capacity so it is always good to be quick but there are always spaces and I encourage parents and pupils to think about trying new things.”

There are widely recognised general & mental health benefits from taking parts in sports programmes and it’s a great way to meet new friends and improve your fitness. The range of classes on offer throughout Moray is fantastic to see and it’s very positive that we are seeing increased numbers.
“Having been a strong supporter of these services as a councillor in the past I was alarmed and frustrated to see the SNP group putting them forward for cuts in last year’s budget. We can’t have a repeat of this again this year and so I want to encourage as many young people across Moray to sign up and make use of these opportunities. They are free with your Fit Life card which now gets you access to not just all facilities in Moray, but also facilities across the Highlands and Islands, including Inverness Aquadrome.”
