MORAY MP Douglas Ross has written to the Chief Executive at Boots the Chemist after constituents complained they were facing a charge for having prescriptions delivered.
Commenting Douglas said: “I have been contacted by local residents who have been informed that if they want to continue to have prescriptions delivered to their homes, they must pay £55 a year or £5 per delivery whereas previously, the service was free.
“These new charges come into force from October 1st which gives people just a short period of time to look at alternative suppliers, on top of which, a lot of people who have their prescriptions delivered are elderly or infirm and cannot get out to pick them up, or don’t have anyone to do this for them.
“Some have contacted other pharmacies to see if they can deliver, but have been told they must go on a waiting list if there isn’t capacity, which is obviously concerning.
“What is even more outrageous is that Boots are actively advertising free delivery of prescriptions online but are at the same time contacting customers in Moray about a charge.
“I’ve written to the CEO at Boots urging them to re-consider this policy which will impact on some of the most vulnerable in our communities.
“Given that Boots are still advertising their free online prescription delivery service, I’m also raising this with the Advertising Standards Authority.”
