Friendly Access, a Lossiemouth-based surf and swim charity for disabled young people, has been congratulated on its success in gaining a £100,000 award from the National Lottery Community Fund, by MSPs in the Scottish Parliament.
Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston submitted a motion last week in the Parliament highlighting the health benefits of the charity’s work to persons with disabilities.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: “Friendly Access works on behalf of people with hidden disabilities and mental health conditions, notably autism.
“Very often people with hidden disabilities can find themselves excluded from activities such as sport.
“Through its work, Friendly Access provides access to adventure sports such as swimming and surfing and, in doing so, opens up a wonderful range of experiences for people who might otherwise miss out.
“Hopefully this award will allow them to extend their provision and that is surely worth celebrating.”
