Commenting on prime minister Boris Johnson’s pledge of a further £51.4m for Scottish farmers, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said: “This announcement will be welcomed across our region.
“The economy of the Highlands and Islands has a high dependency on agriculture and, following the £160m for Scottish farming in Sajid Javid’s spending review earlier this week, it is encouraging to see UK ministers prioritising this sector for support.
“I am also pleased that the prime minister visited Peterhead fish market earlier today, re-emphasising Conservative support for the Scottish fishing industry.
“The UK Government will continue to support our vital farming and fisheries sectors, in stark contrast to the SNP which have failed to pay farmers on time and are intent on dragging our fishing communities straight back into the Common Fisheries Policy.”
