Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has described the announcement by the UK Government that there will be a two year post study work visa for international students as “great news”.
The Scottish Conservative MSP said: “This decision will be welcomed across the Highlands and Islands and follows a period of intense lobbying by my Scottish Conservative MP colleagues at Westminster, as well as by Scottish Conservative MSPs at Holyrood.
“The University of the Highlands and Islands has made significant progress in attracting international students to its campuses – campuses which are sited throughout the region - and I am sure this announcement will provide a welcome boost to their efforts.
“Our region greatly benefits from the contribution made by EU and non-EU students, and I am very pleased that, as we leave the EU, their right to apply for a work visa after their study has been confirmed. It’s great news.”
