Moray MP Douglas Ross held a meeting this week with John Campbell from the Moray Health and Social Care Partnership, to discuss the ongoing concerns of many constituents with regards to the apparent lack of the home care provision in Moray.
Douglas said “ I’ve been contacted by a number of constituents who have had issues with the time taken to set up care packages for their elderly relatives, in some cases delaying their discharge from hospital. In other cases, families have been left struggling to provide appropriate care at home due to the shortage of skilled Carers.
“I had a very productive meeting with John Campbell from Moray Health and Care Partnership this week, when he explained many of the issues in Moray are caused primarily due to the lack of staff resources.
“What has made the situation worse this is that the Allied Health Care, have advised Moray Council that they are no longer in a position to provide care packages in that area due to a lack of staff resources. However, I have been reassured that emergency talks have been held between Moray Council and partner agencies, resulting in an agreement that all current care packages would continue to be provided, albeit with the possibility that some of these services would be provided by different agencies. A number of concerned constituents have been in touch with me about this and I am working with the council to reassure them, but it’s seems communications between the council, care providers and local people could be improved.
“Clearly this situation is of concern to the many who are looking for assistance and support to care for their elderly relatives. During my meeting, I was advised of the different strategies being undertaken by the Council and partner agencies to try and recruit and retain staff to address this problem.
“I sought assurances that no constituent would be left at home without the appropriate care package and this was guaranteed.
“I have asked to be kept up to date with regards any developments relating to this ongoing issue.”
