Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston is planning to confront Nicola Sturgeon over her Government’s failure to restore key services at Dr Gray’s Hospital.
The Scottish Conservative MSP has submitted a request for a constituency question to the First Minister at this Thursday’s FMQs asking her to confirm when maternity and paediatric services will be restored to previous levels.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: “When Jeane Freeman visited Moray all those months ago she promised that action would be taken and we would have a firm plan for the restoration of these vital services.
“However, we are now approaching winter once again and local mums-to-be are faced with the daunting prospect of travelling all the way to Aberdeen - potentially in extreme weather - for care which should be available here in Elgin.
“It simply isn’t good enough and local people, already frustrated with the reduction in services and then the endless delays in restoring them, have run out of patience with the SNP’s broken promises.
“The SNP has presided over the downgrading of the service and it is their responsibility to restore it. There can be no ifs and buts. The buck stops with them.
“I want Nicola Sturgeon to face up to her government’s failure to restore these services, recognise the impact that failure has had on families in Moray, and ensure her Health Secretary finally makes restoring maternity and paediatric services in Elgin a priority”.
