Moray MP Douglas Ross has hit out as he is still waiting for a reply from SNP Justice Secretary, Humza Yousaf, four-and-a-half months after contacting him on behalf of a constituent regarding domestic abuse. Having written to the SNP Cabinet Secretary for Justice in September last year, this has been followed by four further reminders and now the Moray MP has written to the First Minister in an effort to get a response for his constituent.
Douglas said “I first wrote to the SNP Justice Secretary about this in September last year and having received no acknowledgement or response by late October, I wrote again. On this occasion the correspondence was acknowledged and I was advised I would receive a response within 20 working days.
“Despite follow up communications from me in November, January and February seeking a response, I’m still waiting.
“This is totally unacceptable as I have a constituent who raised a very valid and pertinent point with me regarding the support offered to victims of domestic abuse in Scotland and nearly five months later after several attempts to get an update, or timeline for a response, I’m still waiting. More importantly, my constituent is still waiting. I’ve let them know what has been done trying to illicit a response from the Scottish Government, but the apparent lack of interest into the important subject of domestic abuse is unforgivable.
“I’ve now written to the First Minister asking why her Cabinet Secretary for Justice has failed to respond to a legitimate and concerning issue and urging her to intervene. Nicola Sturgeon needs to explain why her government is failing people so badly by not responding to the concerns that have raised.”
