The contribution of the United Kingdom’s armed forces in the fight against the coronavirus has been marked in the Scottish Parliament.
In a motion submitted by Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston, the Parliament was invited to extend its thanks to the country’s service personnel for their response to the pandemic.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: “The scope and range of the support provided by our armed forces personnel during the crisis has been indispensable to the national effort.
“From helping to construct the NHS Louisa Jordan hospital in Glasgow, to airlifting patients from some of our most remote communities and setting up testing facilities across the country, they have responded magnificently to the call of duty during this emergency.
“And of course, while they have been supporting the civilian authorities in that fight against Covid19, their primary role of safeguarding the country has gone on.
“Nowhere is this better exemplified than the contribution of armed forces personnel based in Moray. Puma helicopters from the Covid Support Force are operating out of Kinloss Barracks to support the NHS in Scotland and Northern England, while Typhoons from RAF Lossiemouth have continued to patrol and protect UK airspace.
“The United Kingdom’s armed forces earn our thanks every day of the year for their efforts in keeping us all safe. That gratitude is even more deserved now”.
