Leader of the Moray Councillor Conservative Group Cllr Tim Eagle has commented following the announcement from Moray Council that outdoor leisure facilities in Moray are to re-open from next week.
Commenting Cllr Tim Eagle (Buckie Ward) said: “As many will know I have championed sports and leisure from the very moment I entered the council. For me this continues to be a vital front line service whose wider value in terms of promoting health and wellbeing is sometimes undervalued.
As with many things it was a shame to see local facilities closing during the lockdown but I have asked at every major meeting for a while now for an update on progress to re-open them and I am delighted that staff have done everything possible to get these facilities back open.
It it vital both for the protection of these facilities and for the health benefits they bring that communities across Moray utilise them now they are re-open.
Following questions to senior staff it seems we are well on track to re-open our remaining indoor leisure facilities. Staff are undergoing training and safety work is being done to ensure we can keep local people safe. Hopefully we will see these facilities open on or before 14th September.
I congratulate all the staff that have been involved with this and I hope to see not just the indoor facilities but also what we can do around returning the sports development programme in the near future."
